Major engineering work will be taking place later this month that will affect some Southern ‘Metro’ and Thameslink services in south London, as well as sections of the London Overground network.
The work will mean no trains will run on parts of the rail network for up to seven days, from Saturday 26 October through to Friday 1 November (inclusive). Southern and Thameslink services that are affected are those that travel through the Crystal Palace / Tulse Hill / Peckham Rye areas. This will also mean changes to Southern services in the Sydenham / Honor Oak Park / Brockley areas.
The map below provides an overview of the sections of the rail and Overground networks that are impacted by these works.
What work is happening, where?
The work is taking place between Crystal Palace, Tulse Hill and Peckham Rye. It is part of a programme of track and signalling upgrades Network Rail is delivering across south London.
The work will see the old and unreliable 1980s signalling equipment replaced with the latest technology to improve journeys for customers, as well as track upgrades at key locations on the network.
The switch on of the new signalling is the culmination of three years work, with new signals, signal gantries, new power supply points and hundreds of kilometres of signalling, telecoms and power supply cables having been installed. Signalling control of the affected areas will move from the Victoria Area Signalling Centre to the Three Bridges ROC upon completion of this work.
There are further phases of work to come on other sections of south London’s rail network in the next 12-18 months.
