During this very difficult time, many people will want to help vulnerable people in our community who cannot go out and are totally isolated; with so many voluntary organisations having to close and others being overwhelmed by demand, we wanted to pass on an initiative that has been taken by some local residents in their own road.
They have put a leaflet through all doors in the road giving their telephone numbers to call for help and they have set up a WhatsApp group to coordinate.
To make sure that both you and the person you are helping stay safe, please try and avoid all personal contact or keep 2 metres apart if personal interaction is unavoidable. Some people might just welcome the chance to have a chat on the phone, others might need some shopping or a prescription collected and left at their door.
You might want to include the contact details for the local social care team in your leaflet:
• Mole Valley’s Local Social Care Team: 01372-833456 or
|Road Name/Area||Contact Details||WhatsApp/Telephone/Email|
|Bushey Shaw/ Fairholme Crescent||Peter Williams or Steve Bridges||07485 057516 & 07806 791774|
We have also received details of a Help Group called Community Coronavirus Care. Community Coronavirus Care are a group of people from your local
community that would like to help. They currently have volunteers in Bookham, Fetcham, Leatherhead, Ashtead, Cobham, Epsom, Ewell, Stoneleigh, Banstead and surrounding areas. They can pick up shopping, collect prescriptions, walk the dog and much much more, wherever they can.
How it works...
1. Call them on our freephone number 0800 3077 111and tell us how they can help.
2. Details of what is needed will be passed on to volunteers and you will be matched with someone in the local area who can help. They will then be given your contact details and you can speak with them to get the help you need.
Find them on Facebook: www.tinyurl.com/ccc-surrey
Mole Valley District Council is working with the voluntary sector to support Surrey County Council's Community Helpline. This is open Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm. It is there to help direct those who need support, if friends and family are unable to help, with such things as picking up shopping, prescription collections or putting residents in contact with someone who can be a telephone friend. Telephone 0300 200 1008.
This has been sent on to the Residents' Association, so although headed "Leatherhead" the firms listed on the website below will deliver to KT21. Some Leatherhead Rotarians have been phoning around, etc. trying to compile a list of local businesses that can help during this trying time. If you follow the link below you can see the latest position as we understand it.
The Club is committed to continue supporting the initiative for as long as social distancing measures are in place, with aims to update the page at least every 48 hours (we're updating twice daily at present). We have been promoting the page to local media and community groups and have had positive support from the community.
With best wishes and stay safe
