THE ROTARY CLUB OF ASHTEAD
Ashtead Rotary Village Day is now in the final throes of preparation for the big event on Saturday 10th June 2017.
As always in the 34 years in which The Rotary Club founded and has managed Village Day there are new and exciting activities to add to those well known, well loved and well supported by the thousands of people who attend.
This year we will have the now regular Cherished Car Run from City Freemen’s School to the QEII playing field, followed by official opening by The High Sheriff of Surrey, Robert Napier CBE and attended by the new Chairman of Mole Valley District Council, Cllr Simon Ling. All the popular side stalls will be present, some 120 of them, and the dog show (see page 37 of the programme)
In the central arena there will be performances by ‘Atlantis’, The Barnett Wood Lane Infants Maypole Dancers, The Epsom Rock Choir, Jason Smyth’s Adrenaline Quad Bike Show, Paul Gibbon’s Lurchers and Terriers and The Dandelion Theatre Arts.
Perhaps most dramatic though will be the first ever appearance in Ashtead of ‘Happy’s Circus’. This is a fun-packed, comedy, professional all human (no other animals) show in its own big top with state-of-the-art sound and lighting. You will see clowns, trick cyclists, high wire acts, acrobats, comedians – all of them amazing international circus artists. As they say, “Even the kids will love it.” (see page 8 of the programme).
Admission to Ashtead Rotary Village Day is by programme and these are available from a whole series of shops in Ashtead at just £ 3.00 each. Or they can be purchased on the gate for £ 5.00 each. Note : children under the age of 12 are admitted free. Access to the circus will be restricted and will be from the Village Day Field only. Tickets for the circus may be purchased in advance from The Post Office, The Street ; The Post Office, Barnett Wood Lane and from Home Hardware, Craddocks Parade (only those three). Prices are : children 3 years to 14th birthday £ 3.00 and adults from 14th birthday upwards £ 4.00. On the day tickets may be obtained at the circus entrance at £ 4.00 and £ 6.00 (children & adults respectively).
All the money that Rotary raises at Village Day goes to a wide range of charities and deserving causes in Ashtead, in wider Surrey, in UK as a whole and to many others around the world (see page 24 of the programme). In The Rotary Club of Ashtead we are proud of what we do but we need your support and participation. You will have enormous fun. Thousands before you will verify that. “I came here as a child and now I am bringing my grandchildren.”
